What information do I need to provide to get my tax return prepared? It would be difficult to provide an extensive list of tax information a person needs to provide to have their tax return prepared. Every taxpayer and tax return is unique and have different requirements to accurately prepare their return. Below are some suggested steps to follow as well as some of the documents to look for each tax year:

Steps To Take...

  1. Review your prior 2 – 3 years tax returns for reoccurring income and deduction items, such as wages, investment accounts, interest and dividend income sources, mortgage interest and various other items.
  2. Review your children’s or other dependent’s prior year returns as well as their current tax information for documents to provide. Many parent’s tax returns are significantly impacted by how many children report their income. Be certain that in the event your child or dependent does not claim themselves.
  3. Below is a list of common information and tax documents for individuals, however, not all may apply to your specific situation and the list is NOT exhaustive:

a. Names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, Social Security numbers, and dates of birth for you, your spouse and ALL dependents to be claimed.

b. Prior 2 years’ tax returns if we did not prepare them.

c. W-2 documents from ALL employers, both yours, your spouse and your children that you claim as dependents.

d. A copy of your last pay-stub for the end of the tax year as it may show tax related information not reported on your W-2’s

e. Amount of Alimony Paid or Received for the tax year as well as the name and social security number of their person you paid or received from.

f. 1099-B, 1099-Int and 1099-Div documents from ALL investment accounts, including your children

g. 1099-Int from ALL bank and investment related accounts.

h. 1099-Misc for Rents, Royalties, Other Income, etc.

i. 1099-NEC for Non-Employee Compensation

j. 1099-R statements for ALL annuity, pension and IRA distributions received

k. Form 5498 for the tax year showing balance of any and all IRA and 401k accounts

l. 1099-SSA, 1099-RRB statements for all persons receiving Social Security Benefits and or Railroad Retirement Benefits

m. IRA, Simple, SEP or other qualified pension contributions made during the calendar year.

n. 1099-Q statements for payments made from qualified educational plans

o. Summaries of any educational expenses such as computers, equipment, internet access for the beneficiary of any 529 plans

p. 1098-T Tuition payment statements for all colleges you or your dependents are attending

q. 1098-E Student Loan interest statements for all student loans

r. Closing statements for the purchase and/or sale of any real estate transactions

s. 1098 Mortgage Interest Statements for ALL mortgage loans

t. Property taxes paid during the calendar year.

u. Dependent Care Costs for all dependents including the names, addresses and Social Security Numbers or Federal Employer Identification numbers for all who provided care for each dependent during the tax year

v. All documents relating to any vehicle purchases such as receipts & manufacturer certification for certain vehicle credits

w. 1095-A for everyone receiving health insurance from the Marketplace, and other 1095 received.

x. 1099-HSA which reports any HSA distributions to you for out of pocket medical expenses

1. Detailed health expenses:

a. Insurance costs

b. Doctor expenses

c. Prescription expenses

d. LTC insurance costs

e. Mileage related to medical

2. Charitable Contributions Cash and NON-Cash a. MUST have statement from each donation recipient including name, address and Federal Tax ID

3. Any other tax document you believe is relevant to your tax return.

Sending Us Information

How do I deliver the tax information to you to have my tax return prepared? Here are the most efficient ways to provide us tax documents:


Logon to allied-tax.com and select Client Portal. Enter your username and password to enter your secured client portal account and upload your documents. While we are generally notified automatically when you upload documents, please email us after ALL documents have been uploaded. Please do not piecemeal documents to us, rather, gather all documents, and upload everything at the same time. All documents must be in either PDF, Word, or Excel formats. We cannot accept JPG, JPEG, TIFF or other photographic means. Contact our office at 972-464-1226 to schedule an appointment time to drop off your documents. Once complete we will call you to schedule at time for you to review your return and file.

Important Business

Due Dates

  • S-Corp and Partnership returns are due by March 15th.
  • C-Corp and Single Member LLC returns are due by April 15th.
  • Texas Franchise Tax Returns due by May 15th.

Note: If you established a new business entity during the calendar year, please call our office immediately at 972-464-1226 to notify us in order that we may advise you of the specific due date(s) of your specific business return(s). This will also ensure that if an extension is required, that it will be submitted timely to avoid unnecessary and costly penalties.
